Learn a Little About Deer Tick

Written by

Since Deer Tick is headlining the Natural History Museum TONIGHT, Friday, March 5 as part of KCRW Presents First Fridays, we decided to get to know a little bit more about this band from Providence, RI. Some fun facts:

*The band is founded by John Joseph McCauley II and describes their music as  a “rock, country, blues, grunge, and cosmic experience.”

*John named the band Deer Tick after taking a hike in Indiana and discovering a deer tick on his scalp later that evening. He just thought it sounded cool (he likes to add that he had never heard of Deerhoof or Deer Hunter until it was too late.)

*The band just finished a new album called The Black Dirt Sessions, which will be out June 8.

*And, as a finale, we asked John to give us a list of ANY 5 things. His list is “5 Men That Deer Tick Would Get Sexy With.” In no particular order:

  • Robbie  Robertson (Last Waltz era)
  • Desi Arnaz
  • Mark Twain
  • Robert de Niro (Mean Streets era)
  • Sheriff Linwood (of Those Darlins)

Check Deer Tick out live, along with LA-based band Everest, at the Natural History Museum on Friday. Get there early! Meanwhile, here’s a little bonus treat!
