Music For Your Weekend feat. Fat Freddy’s Drop, Miami Horror, and Meija

For today’s musical selections - we bring you new (and long-awaited) music from a veteran reggae/dub band out of New Zealand, a soulful dance track, and a burgeoning solo project from an incredibly talented Los Angeles-based musician.

It’s Music For Your Weekend and it’s all yours right now.

Fat Freddy’s Drop – “Kamo Kamo”

Reppin’ for the South Pacific Ocean, the Kiwi masters of dub, reggae, and soul-jazz have returned to gives us mellow vibes in this crazed time. Spun from the same fabric as their classic jam Midnight Marauders, which catapulted Fat Freddy’s to international acclaim, this new single has a real infectious groove that doesn’t let go. “Kamo Kamo” is merely a single at this point but one can surmise a new album is on the way (or at least hope and wish one will be). It’s perfect to get the vibes ready for the weekend.

Miami Horror – “Luv is not Enough”

Miami Horror began as a solo project in 2007 by Australian producer Benjamin Plant, and has now grown into a six-piece touring band. Their brand of post indie-electro result in funky basslines and bright chords that create danceable earwigs like “Sometimes” and the evergreen DJ favorite, “Laila.”

This past October, on the eve of their first North American tour since 2016, Miami Horror announced that their recent singles “Restless” and “Luv is Not Enough” will be part of their forthcoming third album due to be released late 2020. “Luv Is Not Enough” brings the funk and dance for sure, but there are also soulful vocals courtesy of Reva Devito, TC Milan, and Queen Magic. Making the single more akin to a groovy UK garage track rather than their usual sound. And you know what, I dig it! Cannot wait to hear the new record and possibly see them live soon (hint: they play the Teragram Ballroom here in LA, Saturday, Nov 9) Take a listen below:

Meija – “Kid”

Rounding out our MFYW feature this week is a solo artist by the name of Meija, and his track which premiered on Jason Kramer’s show this week, entitled “Kid.”Meija is not new to the music world; this is merely the new solo incarnation of writer/producer Jamie Sierota. Sierota was a guitarist and vocalist for the indie pop band Echosmith, and has penned and produced songs for Bay Ledges, Quinn XCII, and Adam Lambert. This delightfully produced alternative-pop track is freshly released today on Meija’s debut EP So long, Kid,  and it sounds BIG!
