Music For Your Weekend feat. KAYTRANADA, Def Sound, and Shiva

Between the Thanksgiving holiday and hosting MBE in November, it's been a while since I’ve written up a MFYW…but I couldn't think of a better week to be back, because there are a few new great releases that you should definitely check out!

KAYTRANADA - BUBBA

I’m not sure any explanation is needed when it comes to KAYTRANDA. His signature sound has not only captivated us KCRW DJs but the music industry as a whole. His long awaited follow up to 99.9% (which made our top ten albums of the year back in 2016) is out today!

BUBBA includes an even more stellar list of features than his debut, with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Tinashe, Estelle and more; and the production we've all come to love remains the same. As KAYTRANADA recently said in an interview, "I'm not trying to rebrand a sound"… and we're all better for it.

Check out the first single "10%" featuring Kali Uchis.

Def Sound - "Tryin'" (Prod. by Mocky)

Def Sound – in my opinion - is one of the absolute most talented and creative artists, you likely have never heard of. Mocky is one of the most prolific producers you may not know by name but certainly know his music as he's worked with Feist, Jamie Lidell, Kelela, Nia Andrews, just to name a few. So one would assume that having these two forces combine would only yield magic. That it has. Def sent this to me the other day saying, "I wanted to send you a new chune that feels like the perfect sonic blanket to get cozy and end the year with." I suspect with these chilly winter days, you'd like to get cozy too so here you go.

Shiva - "She Feels, She Knows"

If you live in Los Angeles, you may know the name DJ Shiva. She has been spinning at some of the city's most popular venues for the past decade. However, you may not know that she's also a producer. Similar to Def Sound, she shot this my way, with the note, "Persian electronic vibes...Some feels for the last Full moon of the DECADE!" Not sure I can add anything more. Enjoy :)
