Neil Young – Oh Susannah and Shepard Fairey

From Morning Becomes Eclectic producer Ariana Morgenstern:

It’s no secret here at KCRW that I am a HUGE Neil Young fan. Any chance to talk to him about his work is exciting, but being that his new album “Americana” is his first recording in 7 years with his band Crazy Horse, I was extra excited to hear all about it.

Jason Bentley will air an interview with him on Morning Becomes Eclectic tomorrow (Tues, June 5) at 11:15am where he talks about how the band came back together and what it was like in the studio during the sessions.

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on that record and I instantly fell in love with it when I did. The band puts traditional songs through their paces, breathing new life and new meaning to songs we’ve grown up with.

Always the collaborator, Young asked Shepherd Fairey to interpret songs from the album with his unique visual style. Some of those paintings will accompany him on the road providing a backdrop on stage and I got to see them myself this past Saturday, where I also got to meet my guitar hero!

Their collaboration was a labor of love for both of them and you can see the exhibit at the Perry Rubenstein Gallery through July 14.

You can also watch a 40-minute film about ‘Americana” on Neil’s website and see some photos of the exhibit below.
