New Choir of Young Believers – Patricia’s Thirst

Denmark’s Choir of Young Believers really impressed me when they visited KCRW’s studios back in 2009. And I mean it as a total compliment when I say their new single, “Patricia’s Thirst”, reminded me instantly of Duran Duran. (Stream below and download here).

Not exactly what I was expecting after their debut of reveb-soaked, orchestral pop. But it’s the kind of sophisticated approach to pop you would expect from the band, anchored by the majestic vocals of Jannis Noya Makrigiannis.

Info on the band’s new album “Rhine Gold” (which I haven’t had the pleasure of hearing yet) suggests that it hews closely to the template of their earlier work, which was critically lauded, and expands on it in every way.

The album will be out March 20 via Ghostly International.
