Grizzly Bear.

Truth be told, I had never heard their music before their performance at KCRW in 2008, a session where they debuted “While You Wait for the Others”. (I’m nearing my 5 year anniversary here at KCRW and it is still one of the best sessions I’ve witnessed, tied with Black Keys – also in ’08 – for my favorite).

I’ve been anxiously awaiting new tunes since their album “Veckatimest”. That album is a modern pop masterpiece. The band’s members been active since it’s release pursuing separate project. In fact, Stereogum breaks down what they’ve all been up to in the last few years. (SoCal native Daniel Rossen’s solo album was a particular favorite here in the basement, as was the project CANT, from Chris Taylor.) But nothing beats them together.

Then — all in one day and seemingly out of nowhere — they released a new song, a release date for a forthcoming full length album AND a huge world tour.

“Sleeping Ute” is everything I hoped for. I just love Grizzly Bear’s sound. It provides a comfort I can’t describe and has a musicianship that is pretty much unparalleled. When you see them live, you realize how much each member contributes to the band and despite all their musicmaking outside Grizzly Bear, they are undoubtedly stronger as a unit.

The album will be out September 18 and they make their way to LA on October 10. See all the tour dates below!
