From KCRW DJ Anthony Valadez:

Less than a month into 2012 and I can already say that Chilean hip hop artist Ana Tijoux’s “La Bala“ will easily be in my Top 5 of the year. QUOTE ME ON THAT!

I received the CD in the mail and quickly popped into my player while en route to First Fridays at the Natural History Museum for my monthly residency.

The title track – also Track 1 on the album — was a head nodder. About 15 minutes into my drive I hit traffic, but I was on Track 4, “Sacar La Voz” and already in love with the record. In fact, I had already pulled over to tweet how much I was loving this album.

Stream: “Sacar La Voz”

The more the album progressed the more the instrumentation became more lush and soulful.

Ana’s raps en espanol soothed me while stuck in LA traffic. Once I got to my destination, I pulled out the case to read the insert, thinking this album had to have been all samples but to my surprise most of the production came from live musicians. That made it even more impressive.

This excellent album will be out January 31.

— Anthony Valadez

p.s.: Go download the title track off her new album for FREE until midnight tonight, it’s Today’s Top Tune.
