I’ve got a soft spot for couple duos. The frantic energy and chaotic beauty of Matt & Kim, the sugary sweet and occasionally heartbreaking songs of The Submarines (John Dragonetti and Blake Hazard ), indie rock hero Dean Wareham (Galaxie 500/ Luna) and Britta Phillips (Dean & Britta), the organ and drum combo of Mates of State (Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel), who famously tour with their young children in tow.

I’m a romantic and I just love the idea of people in love making music together. I feel like it has some kind of special spice.

Now, there is Tennis.

We introduced the Denver-based couple, Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore, on the blog just over a year ago when their track “Marathon” grabbed our ears. Their debut chronicled a 7-month excursion along the Atlantic coast they took their experiences on the open sea.

Without a concept weighing it down, and with the production help of Patrick Carney of The Black Keys, their sophomore release “Young & Old”, is a stronger foot forward. Particularly the single “Origins”. It slays in all the right ways. I love Moore’s vocals (and the back up vocals in the chorus , the catchy keys and the groovy guitars. Love it!

The album is out on February 14, just in time for Valentines Day. Couples unite! (and make music if you’re so inclined!)

They will be playing in LA on May 2 at the Troubadour.
