Foster the People were behind my favorite song of 2010 – “Pumped Up Kicks” – but it was a curious situation because I knew NOTHING about the band, other than that they are based here in LA, and I hadn’t heard a single other song by them.

Now, it looks like 2011 will be their year.

They just released a new track called “Helena Beat” that is already getting spins on Morning Becomes Eclectic and lives up to the promise of “Pumped Up Kicks” – a song so infectious I literally listened to it on repeat for months whenever I needed a burst of energy. It’s sugary electro-pop that you can never have too much of.

Foster the People are currently playing a bunch of shows around SoCal with a Wednesday residency at the Echo and a Monday residency at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa.

The band signed to Columbia last year and have been holed up in the studio and working on their full length. In the meantime, they’ll be releasing an EP on January 25 via iTunes.

Keep an eye on this band!
