I’ve been anxiously awaiting new music from Santigold and while the first song I heard off her forthcoming sophomore album didn’t exactly fit my fancy (“Big Mouth”), the track “Disparate Youth” is RIGHT up my alley.

Santigold – Disparate Youth by santigold

There’s something seductive about it. It’s got a great rolling beat, driving guitar riffs, and the merging of many genres she is known for. (someone even mentioned it’s likeness to XTC’s “Making Plans for Nigel”, which I think is a pretty brilliant comparison.)

What I love about Santi is that she truly has a unique style that is easy to identify. Within the first 5 seconds of hearing this song on Morning Becomes Eclectic, I knew without a doubt it was new Santigold.

She also released a quirky animated video for the track and you can download the first single “Big Mouth” in exchange for your email address here.

Can’t wait to hear the rest of the record, called “Master of My Make-Believe”, out on April 8. I hope to catch her at SXSW and see her incredible back up dancers on stage again. Her live show is one of the best I’ve seen in the last five years!
