Niki and the Dove Live on KCRW — Mother Protect

Being “brave” is a compliment that rarely gets thrown around when describing Scandinavian synth-pop bands. But like a chopped onion from the Swedish Chef himself, there it flew. During their interview on Morning Becomes Eclectic, host

Jason Bentley complimented the tandem of Malin Dahlstrom & Gustaf Karlof for being brave and committed during their performance at a stripped down and raw venue of SXSW two years ago. They were audibly very happy to have been called that, but that ovation doesn’t stop and start when the duo is on stage.

As a matter of fact, they may channel their inner “Braveheart” more so in the way they unequivocally and wholeheartedly embrace the power of pop-music.

To them, their perfectly placed dance beats under Malin’s strong but light as a feather vocals–like on the song “Drummer”– are what being brave and standing up for your art should sound like. Go ahead and call them a pop-band, no one would be happier to hear it than them.
