Other Lives: Artist You Should Know

Other Lives

We discovered Oklahoma band Other Lives a few years ago and the swirling beauty of their lush melodies simply swept us away. We immediately asked them to play our official SXSW showcase and featured them on Morning Becomes Eclectic soon after. They even better live so I’m very much looking forward to their return to the show this Friday.

“Tamer Animals”, the follow up to their self-titled album came out yesterday and is just as gorgeous. I listened to it 3 times in a row when I first got it. It’s that kind of album. One you really want to sink your teeth into because there is so much going on. It was carefully sculpted over more than a year in the band’s own studio and you can hear the time and effort that went into it. It’s hard to pick a favorite song. It’s not really a “singles” type of album but “For 12” and the title track are currently my frontrunners.

The band has toured with The National and The Decemberists and are currently on the road with S. Carey. They make a stop at The Satellite on Saturday, May 21. And tune in Friday at 11:15am for a preview!
