Kaliash Kher is one of the biggest stars in Indian popular music today and he brought his latest project — Kailash Kher’s Kailasa – to the Santa Monica Pier for a free show last week. The group combines traditional sounds with more electronic and funk influences and the crowd went wild for it. The Twilight Dance Seriesis a favorite among Westsiders and much of the party happens below the pier, where thousands of people lay out blankets and picnic right on the sand as the sound from above wafts over them.
It’s an incredible way to spend an evening and there are still a few more shows left in the free series. This Thursday, the “Duchess of Coolville” Rickie Lee Jones will be there. The shows start at 7p.
