Pixies Live on KCRW – Greens and Blues + Monkey Gone to Heaven

Pixies were a special surprise guest at Coachella this year and we grabbed them for a studio session in between weekends.

They’d done a few acoustic radio sessions in support of their new album – their first in more than 20 years – but this was the first that was fully plugged in.

It wasn’t until I heard the opening chords of Doolittle’s “Gouge Away”, when I realized how excited I was to see this band, as I missed their previous reunion tour.

They ran through a set of classics and new songs in a full throttle performance proving they are in fine form.

Yes, it was a bit odd to not have Kim Deal there, but Paz Lenchantin seems to have settled in quite nicely.

The Pixies were alt-rock pioneers of their time so they’re always held to extremely high expectations, but I can’t imagine anyone not liking the new track “Greens and Blues”, an easy favorite off “Indie Cindy”. It’s solid.
