It’s been a good year for in-studio performances here at KCRW. Here are my 10 favorites
1.) Beck “Blue Moon”
Amazing performance all around. The record sounds great but even better live.
Extra points awarded to this one-of-a-kind performance for KCRW at Mack Sennet Studios. It was a live webcast with NPR as part of their first listen series as well.
Could be number one easily. A fantastic rock record that was build to be played live. Their shows go 2+ hours.
Fun, fun, fun. High energy, great voice, bright lights. It had it all!
Had no idea what to expect and he delivered a dynamic set that wove between ballad and dance party.
La Santa Cecilia is the patron saint of music and lead singer Marisol “La Marisoul” Hernandez has the voice of an angel.
You just knew you were witnessing something that was going to be big. His attention to delta blues detail was surprising.
Shelby is an all-time great. She poured so much emotion into this morning set. God Bless her.
Their highly anticipated album did not disappoint and their live session was a cherry on top for KCRW.
When all the KCRW audio engineers gather around to watch a session, you know something fantastic is happening. Run, don’t walk to see them live.
(BONUS!) Joseph Arthur “I Miss The Zoo”
The guy paints a portrait while singing his Lou Reed inspired song. Let me say it again, he paints while he sings.
