The Walkmen Live on KCRW

Written by

The Walkmen drove all night from Las Vegas to end their West Coast run with a live performance on Morning Becomes Eclectic today.

They treated us to a set of songs from their new album “Lisbon,” which is one of my favorites of the year. The first time I listened to it, I was sitting on a beach staring at the ocean and it was a perfect fit for Hamilton Leithauser’s always excellent vocals – heavy with all kinds of emotion.

Watching from Master Control with Jason Bentley and Eric J Lawrence, we all agreed that he is one of our favorite rock frontmen. He has a distinct cool and style in his performance, but it never seems like a constructed stage persona – he’s really feeling it! “Angela Surf City” is the best example and one of the standouts from this morning.

Also, I checked The Walkmen’s page on KCRW.com to find this comment from Rui Dias:  “I’ve just stopped by to let the guys know that Portugal is listening to KCRW and The Walkmen. A big shout out from Lisbon!!! Rock on, guys!”

Love it!

Lisbon – the album – is out now and worth picking up. Check out the full performance here
