Each and every week of the year, Today’s Top Tune offers an array of artists to listen to and add to your collection. This week, it’s King Tuff who brings us “Neverending Sunshine.” Plus, we’ll share a song by DeVotchKa, whose West Coast tour lands in Los Angeles Sept. 29. We’ll discover that Montebello-based artist Katzù Oso really does make music in his bedroom. Serene and beautiful vibraphonist Masayoshi Fujita proves to have a magical touch. And we’re thrilled to have KCRW favorite Jim James perform solo and acoustic at KCRW HQ this coming Saturday!

Monday, August 6 King Tuff “Neverending Sunshine”

According to Kyle Thomas, aka King Tuff, there is a hidden world where songs come from and an invisible hand that guides the artist to his calling. Representing his latest psychic revolution, we share the song “Neverending Sunshine.”

Tuesday, August 7 DeVotchKa “Straight Shot”

The music DeVotchKa makes feels like a gigantic world hug. Blurring borders and defying genres, they do a remarkable job, whether with a symphonic orchestra, at a festival or keeping us company while we get from one place to the other.

Wednesday, August 8 Katzù Oso “Crazy4luvinU”

Montebello-based indie pop artist Paul Hernandez, aka Katzù Oso, has gone under the radar long enough. After loads of backyard shows and his debut mixtape released this summer, he’s ready to soothe our souls with his upbeat, danceable production and his dreamy vocals on “Crazy4luvinU.”

Thursday, August 9 Masayoshi Fujita “It’s Magical”

Vibraphones are usually unseen instruments, tucked away in the back of an orchestra and hiding in jazz outfits. Japanese-born and Berlin-based composer Masayoshi Fujita makes the relatively new instrument a focal point in his music, as exemplified in “It’s Magical.”

Friday, August 10 Jim James “No Secrets” Live on MBE

On a recent visit to MBE, My Morning Jacket frontman and guitar hero Jim James brought a full band to our studios to play songs from his fuzz-drenched new solo album. We’ve cherry-picked our favorite track, “No Secrets,” and asked him to tell us a little about it.
