Track Premiere: A Beacon School “It’s Late”

A Beacon School is the first solo project from Brooklyn based multi-instrumentalist Patrick J. Smith who has played with Modern Rivals, BLUFFING, and most recently Perfect Strangers alongside Max Savage (Parquet Courts). You’re likely pretty familiar with the stone cold jam “I Don’t Believe It,” which has been all over Morning Becomes Eclectic lately.

But wait, there’s more! KCRW is premiering the gorgeous, swirly, meditative track “It’s Late.”

KCRW Music Director/Morning Becomes Eclectic host Jason Bentley had this to say about the track: “Like all the best music, my interest has been based on intuition mostly. The lyrical guitars, rhythmic patterns, and hushed vocals are well arranged and composed. Definitely in my wheelhouse.”

And here’s the song’s writer, Patrick J. Smith, on how it came together: “This song is about late night anxiety. Often I’ll get these amazing moments of clarity, where I think I’ve figured it all out, but they quickly devolve into me kind of arguing with myself and getting nowhere. Musically, it’s the only song on the album that sticks to a single idea and explores it for an extended time. I like to think that repetition without resolution underscores the lyrical themes of frustration and fruitlessness.”
