TV Girl Can’t Throw Away Their Memories of Their Exes

It’s easy to fall in love with the sparkly pop sounds of TV Girl. The LA-based trio’s new album, Who Really Cares, is sonically sweet, catchy, and just a fun time. Perfectly chosen samples and catchy hooks are reminiscent of the 90s/early 2000s (think Fatboy Slim). But where the album truly shines is through unexpected lyrics detailing unrequited love, frustrations, and loneliness. For example, there’s the album’s lead-off track, “Taking What’s Not Yours.”

The whole song is about all the objects left behind after a relationship ends. Lighters, books, half a box of wontons, whatever… all the horrifying things you wish would self-immolate, but somehow keep sitting around the house. Real bummer. And saying about the artifacts left behind: “And although I think I’ll miss them / At least there’s proof of my existence”

Ouch!

The rest of the album is in tune with the same bittersweet pop that is oh-so-relatable and oh-so-fun. You can download it for free on their Bandcamp page. But hey, why not grab the vinyl too! (I did!)
