What I Got at the Post Office Today by Chuck P

Written by

All of our DJs receive hundreds of CDs a month to consider for airplay. In this regular feature, KCRW DJ Chuck P catalogues his musical bounty from the Post Office each week.

Mail call!  I’ve got some fun stuff I want to share…

sonnyboy

1) Sonnyboy – Shel Riser!  Love this guy! Used to collaborate with Prince and I think this his fourth or fifth solo record. I expect you’ll hear everyone at KCRW play this.  Me, for sure.

palmdale

2) Palmdale – Great local band featuring Kay Hanley from Letters To Cleo.  “Here Comes The Summer” is one of my two favorite summer songs this year.  This is a five song EP.

manson

3) Hexham Heads Present Manson Family Circus – If you want me to listen to your song, create a cd case using paper and a needle and thread, cover the Misfits acoustically, and cut and paste Charles Manson’s face on to Danzig’s body.  It’s almost as good as Tony Danza’s face on Danzig’s body (you can do a quick search for this… hilarious). No matter how bad your music is, if you are creative with the packaging, it jumps to the top of the stack.

Today’s honorable mention is a live album from Leonard Cohen, “Songs From The Road,” featuring performances from 2008-2009, including Coachella.  Hot on the heels of the recent Isle Of Wight 1970 CD, no less.

Editor’s Note: The video is shaky but it sounds pretty awesome!
