All of our DJs receive hundreds of CDs a month to consider for airplay. In this regular feature, KCRW DJ Chuck Pcatalogues his musical bounty from the Post Office each week.

Not only have my wife and kid been gone for the past week, but the neighbors moved out too. It’s been quiet. Almost too quiet. Almost.

One of the bad things that happens when I’m doing the bachelor thing is my eating habits go out the window. It’s far too easy to eat out of convenience rather than healthy. I’m not hitting fast food joints, but I tend to skip meals or just have an ice cream sandwich for dinner.

Let’s move on to the post office goodies before I gain ten pounds just talking about this…

Addis Acoustic Project “Tewesta” – I sure love getting world music in the mail. One of my favorite places to hear music from is Ethiopia. I just picked up an epic Ethiopian dance music compilation over the weekend at

Amoeba Records. This looks much different, but no less exciting.

Niki & The Dove, 7″s from

Telepathe,

Superhumanoids and

Soft Swells. That

Soft Swells track is one that’s received a lot of play on my show. Nice to have a hard copy. The White Iris singles are always a treat, so I’m looking forward to cracking those open.

The Ettes “Wicked Will” – Once Angelenos and now Brooklynites. We lose a lot of great talent to Brooklyn it seems, but then we get some of them headed here, so it’s a decent exchange program. The Ettes are back in fine form with this new album. I’ve been playing the track Excuse for a month or so and it always gets a reaction. Hope the rest of the album is that good. Will I get in trouble if I say something about Poni’s long hair? I hope not.

Richard Buckner “Our Blood” – One of the few packages I’ve opened from

Merge Records where I didn’t rip the poster. Love the couple of tracks I’ve heard from this album, so eager to hear the rest of it.

Honorable mentions include a couple of (probably) incredible new releases from B-Music, plus CD’s from Moonface and Ursula 1000. Hear some of this and so much more on tonights show.

Now pardon me while I go have a turkey pepperoni pizza and Mexican Coke for lunch.

Best,

Chuck P.
