What I Got at the Post Office Today by Chuck P

Written by

All of our DJs receive hundreds of CDs a month to consider for airplay. In this regular feature, KCRW DJ Chuck P catalogues his musical bounty from the Post Office each week.

Unusually warm weather the past few days. I actually had to put on shorts to run errands. Odd, for February, but I’m sure none of us SoCal’ers are complaining. Unusually large haul at the PO Box, too.

ringo deathstar

1) Ringo Deathstarr – “Colour Trip” .. great name for a band. I actually played a demo from this CD last year, so it’s nice to see it get an official release. The torch bearers to post My Bloody Valentine and contemporary shoegaze. “Colour” me excited.

puro instinct

2) Puro Instinct – “Headbangers In Ecstasy” .. Love this band from Los Angeles. Been playing a few singles over the past year, and I’m stoked to be able to hear the full length. Used to be called Pearl Harbor. LA’s music scene is kicking right now.

big search

3) Big Search 7″ .. plus bonus vinyl LP. I’ve played a track from this single for the past few weeks. It’s the solo project from Matt Popieluch (from LA band Foreign Born). Love love love to get vinyl…

Honorable mentions include Cage The Elephant LP (as a thanks for playing one of the tracks early, I guess), an amazing package from Drag City records, the full length debut from Banjo Or Freakout and the new Mother Mother disc on Last Gang records. They’re in town this week, might have to check it out.

Hear some of these tracks tonight at 12a on 89.9 KCRW.

Cheers,

Chuck P.
