What I Got at the Post Office Today by Chuck P

Written by

All of our DJs receive hundreds of CDs a month to consider for airplay. In this regular feature, KCRW DJ Chuck P catalogues his musical bounty from the Post Office each week.

Rain rain rain… what a great week.  I know I’m in the minority, but there’s something so pleasant about the rain.  I got soaked at the post office this week — but with good tunes.

cloud nothings

1) Cloud Nothings – “Turning On” / garage punk in the vein of Wavves and Vivian Girls. Lots of short nuggets of rock sure to understay their welcome.

Dylan

2) Bob Dylan – “The Best of the Original Mono Recordings” / mono, stereo, whatever. Because it’s Bob, it’s genius.

wooden wand

3) Wooden Wand – “Death Seat” / from old school folkie to new school psych folk, every WW release is welcome in this house. Looks like they made the jump to Michael Gira’s Young God label.  Good fit!

Honorables include a Jimi Hendrix sampler from a new anthology, and another killer jazz release, this time from Mario Pavone Orange Double Tenor.  I love to soak up the new jazz as soon as it lands, because it rarely falters.  All in all, an excellent haul.

Until the next stop,

Chuck P.
