World Festival Preview: Father John Misty, Gillian Welch, Big Thief

Written by

The anticipated second installment of KCRW’s World Festival at the Hollywood Bowl continues this Sunday (June 24) with a stacked triple-bill: Father John Misty, Gillian Welch, and Big Thief (hosted by Jason Bentley).

Over the course of 4 albums, Father John Misty has solidified himself as an expert songwriter and consummate performer. His musings on the world and love, and how he personally navigates both, are equally poignant and clever. His new album God’s Favorite Customer features some of his most delicate songwriting and instrumentation to date. We look forward to seeing these tracks come alive at the Bowl.

Gillian Welch and longtime musical partner David Rawlings are staples in the Americana music world. With jaw-dropping guitar work from David and Gillian’s pitch-perfect vocals leading the way, their intimate set will be well-suited for the legendary Bowl stage.

Opening the evening is Big Thief, who released a critically-acclaimed album in 2017. You’ll hear driving melodies and great songwriting from this indie-rock band on the rise.
