Needless to say, I was very excited when Zach Galifianakis agreed to do the Guest DJ Project. As I learned in the excellent Rolling Stone cover story that came out a few months again, he doesn’t really like doing interviews — but he’s a big KCRW fan and obviously a big music fan.

Remember Kanye West’s “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” video? And no one who was at Bonnaroo in 2008 can forget him jumping up on stage with My Morning Jacket in his Annie outfit to sing “Home Sweet Home”. (yes, that really happened.)

The first thing Zach mentioned when he entered the basement studies of KCRW is that he used to do stand up here – on the Santa Monica College campus…in the cafeteria. He still seems a tad stunned by his humongous success, but it’s clear he’s been working hard at it for a long time.

What made his Guest DJ set so special to me is that he was both hilarious (as would be expected) and entirely sincere (a nice surprise). Check out an excerpt below where he talks about Palace Music and the full Guest DJ set here.
