Fanatics!

Hello from Ha Noi, Viet Nam. As promised, tonight’s show is a noisy motorbike slice of goodness from one of the busiest cities I have ever been to. It’s interesting to watch westerners deal with the lack of traffic lights and crossing the street. I am usually slow on the learning curve, so it took me many visits to countries with traffic like this to lose my fear of getting run over. You look for a slight break in the traffic and gently wade in. If you move slowly and carefully, the traffic seems to conform to your path and you can walk without stopping once, even though the traffic is wall-to-wall. I was watching an Australian couple navigate a crossing and heard them say how hectic it was. I don’t agree. I think it’s congested but surprisingly pedestrian friendly. I will also easily be the first one run down.

Now, the last two weeks, we have been jamming on the conceptual and tonight, for something slightly different, we get down with the mix. It’s a good one. I have been playing it out here for weeks now and I think you’re going to like it. Some regulars pop up, something I think is a good thing in the early autumn. I was reading weather reports from Los Angeles as well as getting intel from Engineer X and it seems that Fanatics in Southern Cal. Have been in quite a heated situation for the last few days. I will be back on Sunday for a few hours before I head out again to New York and beyond and hope not to get singed.

Always being one to let the momentum and suspense build, allow me to plant this in your collective head. KCRW staffers and I came up with some ideas of extra cool thangs to do and came up with a great concept that will happen in early December. It will be live and those in attendance will have a fanatically good time. How we decide how Fanatics are given an opportunity to be there is being determined. We will announce this cool event soon. Tha K is working on how to spring it. Stay tuned for more details. I can tell you this: I was so excited by the idea coming to fruition that I spent a good bit of time awake last night thinking of ways to go with this.

Oh, was there some music we were supposed to talk about? Yes, our mix is a wonderful thang, it moves through many of our regular all over the place impulses and I think you will enjoy. I think Roky’s track is one of the best things in American music. I think this will be our second dip into the new Crystal Castles. It’s different but I think it’s very interesting. I still have to spend more time with it. For me at least, the stand out track of the evening is Johnny Hartman, that voice. Like I said, I think you will dig the show. You will definitely find the music a relief compared to the sound that surrounds my voice this evening! X had quite the time eq’ing his way out of that one mess. At least none of you had to deal with the incredible amount of exhaust fumes I had to inhale to make this happen.

Next week, the Big Three will be back with you all the way live at the KCRW Rok Mosk. I promise you some new Grinderman, some Funkadelic and at least a ton of other great jams to make it all better.

Tonight’s show is a whole ‘nother wall of sound, complete with a Jason Bentley reference. You know us, Fanatics—always working hard for you on a Saturday night. Next week WE ARE LIVE!!!! I can’t wait. Until then, may your tea be as dark as your coffee and STAY FANATIC!!!
