Jenny Lewis' Valentine's Day Guest DJ set of "unironic, beautiful love songs" for lovers and heartbreakers.
Feb 14, 2020

Jenny Lewis is no stranger to KCRW; the Laurel Canyon-tinged indie rocker has performed live on Morning Becomes Eclectic quite a few times over the years (which you can findhere, here, and here). But this year, Lewis got behind the KCRW mic to present a Valentine’s Day-themed guest DJ set.

Lewis says her method for choosing this Valentine’s Day set was “to find unironic, beautiful love songs – some of them heartbreaking, but all of them true.” Throughout the set, she also interlaced her picks with commentary, stories, and love tidbits. Her playlist is wide-ranging, featuring selections by Neil Young, Emmylou Harris, Cass McCombs, Joni Mitchell and others. Her storytelling for these picks will have you leaning in to hear every word, and her full playlist can be streamed on Spotify here.

Lewis released her critically acclaimed album On The Line on March 22, 2019 and features a who’s who of supporting players, including Beck, Don Was, Benmont Tench, Jim Keltner, and Ringo Starr. Beck sidemen Jason Falkner and Smokey Hormel also appear, among many others. She recorded a special performance for KCRW at the famed Village Studios in support and you can watch on-demand.

Tracklist:

1) Neil Young "Razor Love"

2) J.J. Cale "Magnolia"

3) Joni Mitchell "Coyote"

4) Cass McCombs "Dreams Come True Girl" (feat. Karen Black)

5) Emmylou Harris "Wrecking Ball"

6) Johnnie Frierson "Have You Been Good to Yourself"
