Jimetta Rose & The Voices of Creation (which features MBE host Novena Carmel) bring a joyful noise to KCRW’s Annenberg Performance Studio.
Dec 11, 2024

South Central-native Jimetta Rose is a self-described “singer, writer, and visionary.” In the same 2021 profile for VoyageLA, Rose continues: “I specialize in crafting emotion, melody, and language. I am most proud of creating my choir Voices of Creation, a safe space for people to sing songs together that heal.”

This is unquestionably music for healing, and raising hands to, and dancing in the aisles to, and delivering a standing ovation for (all of which happened during today’s performance). This is soul music in the deepest sense of the word — equally as inspired by church choirs as it is by spiritual jazz luminaries like Sun Ra and and Pharaoh Sanders.

Scrub to 02:05:43 to get lifted by Jimetta Rose (Lead Vocals) & The Voices of Creation: Jack Maeby (Music Director, Organ), Khalila Gardner (Choir, Lead Vocals on “Everyday Blessings”), Novena Carmel (Choir), Allakoi Peete (Choir), Brandon Cordoba (Choir), Yohance Wright (Choir), Zavier Wise (Choir), Kam Talbert (Choir), Steven Kellye (Choir), Gaby Hernandez (Choir), Tamina Johnson (Choir), Roz Kumari (Choir), Aankha Neal (Choir), Tamara Blue (Choir), and Adelabu (Choir).
