Anne Litt summed up Jacob Alon’s style best by referring to them as, “Scottish Jeff Buckley.” Other apt comparisons would be Nick Drake, or even the early works of fellow Scots Belle & Sebastian… but maybe that latter one is coming to mind because of Alon’s song titled “Don’t Fall Asleep.” (Think: “Make something pretty while you can, don’t fall asleep”).

Regardless of what Alon’s songcraft does or doesn’t call to mind for you, it easily stands on its own. Their empathetic vocals, evocative lyrics, and intricate guitar work will keep your attention rapt. Scrub to 02:27:18 to hear Alon’s US radio debut, where they tell Novena Carmel about initially gravitating towards medical school before realizing that life as a musician was the only option. And when you hear them play “Don’t Fall Asleep” and “Fairy in a Bottle” live from The Rivian Electric Roadhouse ahead of their debut LP In Limerence (due for release in May, 2025)... you’ll recognize immediately that they made the correct decision.
