May 31, 2023

Drift away with us on a wave of jangle-chill mirror affirmations. LA-based producer Rusty Santos — best known for his work on Animal Collective’s 2004 breakthrough Sung Tongs, and collective member Panda Bear’s landmark 2007 solo release Person Pitch — is readying his latest solo album New Wave In California — due July 14, 2023. The album’s second single “Mirror” (featuring the meditative vocals of Panda Bear himself) will be available on DSPs tomorrow, but for you it’s available right now as part of today’s edition of MBE. Click in for this sweet cut described by our own Anthony Valadez as “spacey, but fresh.”

Also in the mix: Smooth funk via Shafiq Husayn’s latest collab with Anderson .Paak; Thom Yorke’s production fingerprints all over the heavy synth vibes of Clark’s Sus Dog; and Jungle’s latest “Dominoes.”
