MBE Nov. 14: Crack open KCRW’s ‘80s performance archives

Hosted by and

Today’s the day! KCRW’s Bent By Nature opens the floodgates on the archives of Deirdre O’Donoghue, whose show “SNAP” (1982-1991) was a hub for what she called “new, unusual, imaginative, and inventive music.” Dive on in with producer Myke Dodge Weiskopf's beginner’s guide to this massive archive of underground and left-of-center music from the ‘80s and early ‘90s. We offer up some tastes with tracks by featured artists Aaron Neville and Everything But The Girl. Also be sure to check out our new 24-hour streaming channel Bent24

Next, enjoy the brilliant side projects of bass players from some of our favorite bands:

Paul Bender from genre-fluid group Hiatus Kaiyote performs “Summer Fool,” released earlier  this year under his own name. Jam out to “Tickles” from jennylee, a.k.a. Warpaint bassist Jenny Lee Linberg. And put ears on cutouts, the side project of Nation of Language bass player Alex Mackay.

Plus, get your dinner party on with Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, and Robert Glasper teaming up as a supergroup for a live performance of their 2020 release, “Dinner Party.”  They'll be live at the Novo on Thursday, Dec. 8, and we have five pairs of tickets for ya. If you haven't won anything from us in the past 90 days, enter for your chance to win. These tickets are non-transferable — good luck!
