FROM THIS EPISODE

Philosopher Mark de Silva's debut novel, Square Wave, shows what a novel can do when it goes off the beaten track. In it, de Silva attempts to structure chaos by following patterns that might emerge from what he calls the esoteric stream of consciousness of experts. The result is that the reader is caught in the intersection of those who know too much and the novice who knows nothing, leaving them with unfamiliar contexts, only to find retrospective understanding later in the book.
