Should LA Host the 2024 Olympics?, Relativity Media, and 'Best of Enemies'

Boston dropped its bid to host the 2024 Olympic Games yesterday after public support for the effort evaporated. Now, Los Angeles could become the designated American bidder. L.A. hosted the Summer games in 1932 and in 1984. Both times, the city made money. But not everyone is so sure that will happen again. And, Relativity Media is the biggest Hollywood studio you’ve probably never heard of. The studio has made and distributed a lot of movies and TV in the past 10 years, but there haven’t been many hits, yet Relativity has managed to raise a lot of money. Now, the company is facing several lawsuits and possible bankruptcy. Then, by the mid-1960s, the presidential conventions had turned into full-fledged TV events, but ABC was dead last in the ratings. In order to spice up their convention coverage, ABC executives invited two towering intellectuals to a series of debates. The fireworks between liberal Gore Vidal and conservative William F. Buckley, Jr. ushered in the age of bellicose cable news commentary. Finally, hundreds of scientists, including Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk, wrote an open letter this week warning of autonomous killer robots.
