Proposition 226 has struck a chord not only with union members and their elected representatives, but with business leaders, Democrats, Republicans and even a few voters. Which Way, L.A. will work to whittle down the debate to provide insight for voters struggling to understand the implications of the initiative.
Mark Bucher: Co-chairman and one of the three co-authors of Proposition 226. He is President of Service 1st, a California-based management services company. Kevin Kucera: President and organizer for Precision Lodge 1600, local part of the machinist union. He wrote a recent article that appeared in the Daily News against Prop 226. Professor Charles W. Baird: Professor of Economics at Cal State Hayward and Director of the Smith Center, a privately endowed free market think tank on the campus. Josh Rosenkranz: Executive Director of Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law, founded and for 8 years ran New York City's Office of the Appellate Defender, and has written books and articles on law and policy. Sergeant Dennis Zine: Director of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the LAPD Union, and vice-chair of the elected charter reform commission, and a 30-year veteran of the LAPD. Medra Patillo: District Labor Council President of California State Employees Association. Julian Dixon: Democratic Congressman, 32nd District (Crenshaw & West Los Angeles). Al Checchi: Democratic contender for Governor.
