Up for reelection are the Governor and Lt. Governor. Democratic governor  Jerry Brown has been in office since 2011 and is up for reelection. His top two opponents are Republicans Tim Donnelly from San Bernardino and Neel Kashkari from Laguna Beach. A full list of candidates and more background here:  California’s very weird governor’s race.

Eight candidates are running to fill Zev Yaroslavksy’s seat as LA County Supervisor. The Board of Supervisors is the second-most powerful governmental body in the state, second only to the governor. It overseas a county of more than 10 million people, a $26 billion budget, and more than 100,000 employees.  A full list and more background at the Los Angeles Times.  Also, listen to the Which Way, LA? debate with four of the top supervisor candidates.

When Sheriff Lee Baca retired after 15 years, the race for his spot heated up. Seven candidates are running to be the new Sheriff.

Since Representative Henry Waxman announced his retirement, 21 candidates joined the race to represent California’s 33rd District. That number has since dropped to 18, although two have suspended their campaigns. The New York Times’ Mark Liebovich talked to Warren about this seat, for what he calls “the Botox Belt.”
