Why would the Koch Brothers be interested in the LA Times?

The Tribune Company, which owns the Los Angeles Times and other newspapers, has openly been looking for bidders to take over its struggling newspaper division.

Among those rumored to be in the running are conservative billionaires Charles and David Koch, who head up Koch Industries.

That has some liberals up in arms here in Los Angeles over what would happen to the local paper of record.

But conservatives have been on a media spending spree lately. Buying up The Wall Street Journal, and most notably closer to home, U-T San Diego, the former Union-Tribune.
