GOP Debate Roundup, Transgender Choices at UC Schools, and 'Compton'

After the first GOP presidential debate the main question seems to be: What is happening in the Republican Party? One thing is clear—the debate was a ratings bonanza. According to Nielsen the debate reached the most viewers for any primary debate ever. Then, starting this fall, applications for UC schools will offer aspiring students six gender options to choose from. What does this say about transgender acceptance? And it’s Friday so it must be time to talk about movies! Dr. Dre released a much anticipated album last night on iTunes. Compton is his first album in nearly 16 years and is a companion album to the Straight Outta Compton movie that comes out next week. The movie tells the story of Dre’s group N.W.A., and how their seminal album made rap history. We speak with KCRW DJ Garth Trinidad about Straight Outta Compton and how the album spoke to him.
