Barry Jenkins adapts James Baldwin’s ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’

Barry Jenkins’ “If Beale Street Could Talk” is nominated for several Oscars this year. Adapted from a James Baldwin novel, the movie is a love story between young Tish and Fonny. While Fonny is in prison awaiting trial for a rape he didn’t commit, 19-year-old Tish finds out she’s pregnant. The family rallies around Tish, and works hard to get Fonny out of prison in time for the birth.
