California death penalty moratorium?

On the heels of Illinois Governor George Ryan-s moratorium on the death penalty in that state, Cardinal Roger Mahoney has weighed in, asking Gray Davis to follow suit. DNA testing has set a number of death row inmates free in recent years. Is the tide of public sentiment shifting? Or do Californians continue to be enamored with the death penalty? And what about the state legislature, after lawmakers in Nebraska and New Hampshire voted against the death penalty, only to see the laws vetoed by their respective governors.
