Candidates State Case in Attorney General's Race

As the state-s Attorney General campaigns for reelection, crime in California is on the rise. His main challenger says that-s because California-s top law enforcement officer is pursuing a -social agenda.- Veteran Democratic Legislator Bill Lockyer, who was elected Attorney General in 1998, wants to stay on the job. His Republican challenger is State Senator Dick Ackerman, who-s also been an Assemblyman and Mayor of Fullerton. Both candidates address fighting violent and white-collar crime, lawyering and supporting law enforcement, running for office in a media state, a woman-s right to choose, the environment, the death penalty and gun control. Reporter-s Notebook: Los Angeles Times Adopts New Look This week, two years after the Chicago Tribune bought the Los Angeles Times, Southland readers are seeing a new type style, new columnists and the reorganization of 21 feature sections. Editor and Vice President John Carroll says that more than just a matter of format and content, the revisions are giving a new -voice- to the -back of the book.-
