Democracy in Latin America

Mexico's ruling International Revolutionary Party insists that next month's presidential election will be the most democratic in history. But, after 70 years of controlling the press, squashing dissidents and rigging the vote, some skeptics insist that the PRI will do what it always has: win. That's what Alberto Fujimori, the President of Peru, did last month, despite international outrage over an election that critics are calling a mockery of the democratic process.
