Election Could Shift Power Base at City Hall

Hosted by
There-s a lot at stake at City Hall, the LA School Board and the politically beleaguered City of South Gate. Seven of 15 Los Angles City Council seats will be decided tomorrow, which could result in some heavy weather for Mayor Jim Hahn. Former LAPD Chief Bernard Parks, School Board member Julie Korenstein and secessionist Paula Boland are among vying for council seats, and incumbent Nick Pacheco will defend his seat against former State Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa. Four out of 7 LA School Board members are also up for re-election, with former Mayor Richard Riordan playing a major role. The City of South Gate also faces yet another fierce electoral battle. We speak with Jon Regardie, of the Los Angeles Downtown News, and Frank del Olmo, of the LA Times, about tomorrow-s elections and some close races with a lot at stake.
  • Making News: Shake up at the San Francisco Police Department
Late last week, a grand jury indicted San Francisco-s Chief of Police and 9 other department officials, charging them with conspiring to cover up an investigation into an off-duty brawl involving three rank-and-file cops.
