Election - LA Attorney, Controller, Mayor

We look at the high profile battle to replace LA's outgoing City Attorney and a quiet but important race for City Controller with the LA Weekly's Marc Haefele. Deputy Mayor Rocky Delgadillo, Deputy DA Lee D'Agostino, Deputy DA Frank Tavelman, and City Councilman Mike Feuer, all experienced in city hall legal issues, are vying for city attorney which, with its client base of more than 3,500,000 people, is the legal counsel for the "corporation" of Los Angeles. City Councilwoman Laura Chick, investment banker Mervin Evan, and CFO Laurette Healey face off in the quiet but important race for city controller, the city's chief accounting and auditing officer. Newsmaker: Nino Durden Arraigned in Federal Court on Rampart Charges - Nino Durden, a key player in the LAPD Rampart division probe, pleaded guilty in federal court today. Brian Bland, of Associated Press, says his state and federal deals provide authorities more ammo to go after fellow officers and to expand the Rampart inquiry. Sentencing will be held until Durden finishes cooperating with authorities. Reporter's Notebook: Mayoral Candidate Xavier Becerra - Congressman Xavier Becerra has represented Echo Park, Silverlake, and East LA since 1993, and currently serves on the House Ways and Means Committee. Referring to his local, state and national record, he looks forward to uniting a disperse LA, taking city hall to the people, and dealing with regional issues like the MTA, LAX and LAPD.
