Iran's Nuclear Build-up

Hosted by Warren Olney Apr. 13, 2006
Mohamed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, is in Tehran, trying to persuade Iran to suspend its nuclear program. This after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced that Iranian scientists had produced enriched uranium at a level sufficient to create nuclear energy, and his deputy nuclear chief declaring that the country plans to move toward large-scale enrichment. Now that Iran has formally joined the club of nuclear countries, what's the west going to do about it? Are nuclear weapons the next step? Is there a way out of the stalemate? What about claims that the US is preparing for military action? Diana Nyad guest hosts. (An extended version of this discussion originally aired earlier today on To the Point.)Making News: Governor Schwarzenegger and the Politics of Global WarmingEnvironmentalists are not pleased with Arnold Schwarzenegger's somewhat changed stance on measures to curb global warming. The Governor says he intends to put a cap on greenhouse gasses, but wants to move toward those goals very carefully so as not to have a negative effect on the state's economy. Dan Weintraub, who's following the story for the Sacramento Bee, says the Governor is caught between two political goals.
Guest host Diana Nyad, 2002 inductee into the International Swimming Hall of Fame, is a business sports columnist for Marketplace, senior sports correspondent for Fox News, and has hosted her own show on CNBC. She's also the author of three books.
