There-s something old and something new at City Hall. Two races constituted a sort of referendum on two members leaving the council, both of whom were trying to anoint successors from their own offices. One was successful. One was not. The new blood is labor-s Martin Ludlow who beat Deron Williams, an aide to City Councilman Nate Holden. The old blood in the northeast San Fernando Valley's 12th District, where Greig Smith, an aide to Councilman Hal Bernson, managed to beat Julie Korenstein and keep the seat in the political family.
