Mayor Hahn Presents His Master Plan for LAX

Mayor Jim Hahn today unveiled the latest proposal for modernizing Los Angeles International Airport. At a cost of $9 billion, the plan is designed to improve security and efficiency. The 5000-page plan is the 33rd modernization plan in the past 8 years, and will now be considered along with 3 proposals left over from former Mayor Richard Riordan and a 5th alternative leaving things as they are. But the Mayor-s own economic study shows that his proposal would not expand LAX enough to provide any new benefit to the economy. So would it be worth the cost? Is there a cheaper alternative? We ask the Mayor, neighborhood and development activists, an airline management consultant, and Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski whose district includes LAX.
