The deadline has passed for new legislation to be signed or vetoed by California Governor Gray Davis. Some 800 measures on guns, domestic partners, labor, parks, immigrant rights, and a host of other subjects, were up for gubernatorial review. We join Bob Sallady, of the San Francisco Chronicle, and Dan Walters, of The Sacramento Bee, for a look at what the governor signed and refused to sign, and hear about the political consequences for next year's statewide elections.
  • Newsmaker: Task Force Holds First Public Hearing on Terrorism - A task force formed by Assembly Speaker Bob Hertzberg has convened to examine the impact of September 11 and determine if the state budget needs to be revisited. The San Fernando Valley Democrat says the panel is first considering low- and no-cost approaches to protect the state against terrorism.
  • Reporter's Notebook: OC Supervisors to Vote Tuesday on El Toro Airport - The Orange County Board of Supervisors is expected to give final approval to the El Toro Airport, according to Jean Pasco of the Los Angeles Times. Pasco, who says that supervisors are "looking to the future," also updates opposition efforts by open-space advocates, a recent report from the FAA, and an upcoming appellate court decision.
