The automobile made Los Angeles what it is today…at first for the better but, increasingly, for the worse. Now, cars will have to share hundreds more miles of city streets than they do now with bikes and buses — according to Mobility Plan 2035, adopted this week by the City Council. Cars will be forced to drive at slower speeds, and planners claim that will accommodate more traffic, not less. Some neighborhood groups don't buy it; they're going to court. José Huizar, who represents downtown, Boyle Heights, Eagle Rock and Highland Park, is a supporter.
