Aleksandar Hemon's novel, The Making of Zombie Wars (Farrar, Straus & Giroux), is a darkly nihilistic book masquerading as a comedy – as much a commentary on society as it is the story of a bad script writer. Hemon addresses the dire and humorous narrative by pointing out that "you tell funny things if you survive." He talks about his inspiration being the despair he felt about the Bush years and whether he could find his comic relief.
