Brian Blanchfields' book, Proxies: Essays Near Knowing (Nightboat), is a collection of essays that are, in part, mini-memoirs. They reveal truths about being a queer poet who is sexually and romantically active in the post-AIDS era. He reads from his essay, “On Tumbleweed,” which reveals that he has tumbled through a series of relationships and academic jobs. He is so committed to saying the unsayable that he is candid about actual salary figures.
